Grab a tissue and prepare to be inspired!

A little inspiration....

A son asked his father, 'Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?'
The father who, despite having a heart condition, says 'Yes'. They went
on to complete the marathon together. Father and son went on to join
other marathons, the father always saying 'Yes' to his son's request of
going through the race together. One day, the son asked his father,
'Dad, let's join the Ironman together.'

To which, his father said 'Yes.'

For those who didn't know, Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever. The
race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile (3.86 kilometer)
ocean swim, followed by a 112 mile (180.2 kilometer) bike ride, and
ending with a 26.2 mile (42.195 kilometer) marathon along the coast of
the Big Island .

Father and son went on to complete the race together.

kim's favorite memories with dad

the first one is a little hazy because i was only like six but i remember dad and i were in that ridiculous yellow van that we had. it was just me and dad and it was my birthday. on the way home dad got pulled over(big surprise there :) i was sitting in the front seet so he told me to hurry and get in the back and to put my seatbelt on that i hadnt been wearing earlier. after the officer gave him a ticket, dad bribed me with something, i cant remember, and told me to not tell mom. i dont beleive i ever did.

the next one is when we were living in the pleasant grove house with grandma and grandpa. it was a saturday which meant hard core cleaning, but like always i didnt want to. so mom wouldnt let me have lunch until my jobs were done. i was sitting on the stairs crying when dad came up to me and very sneakily handed me a candy bar.

another memory is spending the weekends at the house that later became the bank. kristina, karine, angela and i would all sleep on the floor by dad's bed and he would tell us the most funniest bedtime stories, sound effects and all. they were the greatest stories and they always had us laughing.

this next memory made me feel really stupid and is probably why i was so shy. it was when i was turning eight and i went to a baptism fireside with dad. afterwards they announced that there were going to be refreshments. i was so excited that i jumped up off the bench and started making my way to the back, thinking that dad was right behind me. when i noticed that a lot of other people were going too, i got a little nervous and went to grab dad's hand. but it wasn't dad's. the man that i had grabbed on to laughed and told me that i had the wrong dad. terrified, i looked around for my real dad and found him still sitting on the bench, laughing. :)

my last memory combined with the last couple of years, going down to arizona to spend that summer with dad. no matter what he always tried to make it really fun for us. i really enjoyed those summers and hope that there are more to come. i love you daddy! happy daddy day!

Dan's Favorites

I remember Getting my old car crave from hearing about Dad talk about his old blue ford mustang and how fun it was. Then one day when we lived at the forest house, Dad pulled up in a corvette that brice was using for a date or something, and I thought it was so cool.

another memory I have of Dad that has rubbed of on me is when he would not have his old truck or crown vic registered and we would see a cop and he would turn down a side street and try to lose him so we would not get a ticket. I always felt a "rush" and was rooting for dad to escape the evil ticket writer. I have that rush often still.

Never forget Dad helping me make a video commercial for high school, (laughing right now as I try to write this) about the "Got Milk?" being twisted to "Got fresh milk?" and the absolute crazy amounts of dry crackers and cookies he slammed into his mouth with his hat on sideways and him acting like a crazy person. It all ended with is mouth so dry and in need of milk to wash it down and he starts slamming down a carton of milk and then finds out it is bad milk and you see him spit cottage cheese out screaming. Funniest thing I have ever seen. someone find the video.

Very fun memories camping out, I remember getting to drink pepsi no where else but on campouts. I also remember Dad buying "Trix " cereal and it was the first time and probably only time as a kid eating it. It was glorious. Had two cups full, (no bowls) and Then we went fishing on Roosevelt lake and caught some fish. Camping was also where Matt and I got shot at. Dad had driven us up hobble creek by mapleton, and we had john manley, and mike swenson for a scout campout. Dad always brought a gun with him camping. Well it got late and Dad went to sleep. All four of us were talking around the fire when we heard a car coming, so swenson and manley decided to "moon" them and as the car drove down the dirt road 30 yards from our spot. As the car drove by, they started shooting at us and I remember hearing bullets hitting the tree branches just above us and swenson yelling " down, get Down! Well the car turned around and pulled into our camp, and I will never forget Dad emerging from the tent like a lion with his gun in hand and walked right up to the car without knowing who was in it and not being able to see anybody in it because it was so dark and yelling at whoever it was to get the hell out of our camp! They back out and drove off but then drove by again. So Dad got so pissed he told all of us to hide and to get big rocks (like baseball size or bigger) and if that same car drove by again, to "mark " it with dents and to break the windows so the cops could find it because it didnt have a license plate. We were supposed to run like hell when we did and get away as fast as possible. They never did come back that night. But I was hoping they would. How often do you get a green light like that?
I will never forget when Dad Matt and I were on the paper route and Dad dropped us off for delivering the apartments by foot. I would sometimes put my papers on the ground in front of the rear tire of the truck so that when Dad drove off, he would run over the papers and squash them smaller so I could carry them easier. Well it was a wed paper, and they were thicker because of the coupons inside, and when he tried to drive away, the truck couldn't make it over the pile, so dad thought it was a curb or something and gassed it and the tire started peeling out ontop of the pile and throwing them 50 feet back in shreds! It lasted all but 2 seconds and 25-30 papers were ruined. Dad got out of the truck and there were little pieces of paper floating down all over and he didn't even know what to think. I remember some of the papers coming back at high speeds again as he threw them back at me for being a dummy. (Trish is laughing as I write this) I never did it again. But I wished I could. I also remember seeing someone break into a car and Dad chased him in the truck until we found a cop and they caught them.

another paper route story, one that shaped my testimony, was when Dad dropped us off and Matt and I did our walk route and Dad met us about 30-45 min later at the Simons grocery store, but one day he didn't show up quickly and I was scared because of an accident he was in that almost killed him and I thought he was dead somewhere in his truck rolled over from a drunk hitting him. Matt and I decided to walk the route and try to find him. I remember walking down this one road, it was very dark because this one streetlight was always out since the start of the paper route 2 yrs earlier. I remember it so vividly because the house we delivered to had a big long giraffe looking neck up to the box and it was so hard to see the first few times we delivered to it because there was no light. Well I decided to pray, and I asked Heavenly Father if my dad was all right, and if he was alive, and I asked him if he was ok, to let that street light come on so I would know. 5 seconds later that street light burst on, and I felt that God knew where my dad was and loved my dad so much. I was so happy. I told Matt we had to go back to Simons, and that Dad would be there waiting for us. He was. Dad had been worried so bad about us he had called the cops to find us! That streetlight never came back on again. That helped me to know God's love for everyone and that he answers prayers, even 10 yr old ones that require some extra effort than normal.

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day DAD!!!
I just wanted to let you know that I love you very much and think of you often. Some of the best times that I remember spending with you have been the father and son's campouts we've been on. I remember all the good times of not having any silverware and having to eat pies with our hands, and the time we were in Heber and you woke me up to see a moose close up. I want you to know that I treasure all the time that I spend with you and hope to spend lots more. I love you very much and remember you in my prayers.

Love you tons,
Andrew

P.S. I love you!

Don't ever forget that we each have our own trials and weaknesses, as well as things that we regret. What I do know is that you have a good heart, and that you love each of us just as much or more as any other amazing dad in the world. You are a wonderful Dad and I know that you try so hard to give whatever you can for us!!! Your love is very apparant, and not every kid gets to experience that. Know that I hold nothing against you, and love you so very much!!! You are the only person that has been in my prayers everyday since I was first learning how to talk to my Heavenly Father. Like grandpa stradling, he has the ability to see you in your best light, and he loves you perfectly. The last few years I have been blessed to feel so much love for you and really admire who you truly are! Thanks for your example, for giving me my sense of humor, and for teaching me how to give others unconditional love! You're the best!
love,
Kristina

5 more memories from Katie

After reading everyone elses, I just had to add some more...
1. Riding in the truck with you and laughing my head off when you would yell "Whoo Hoo!" as loud as you could out the window and whoever was on the street
2. Hearing you sing, "Hey good lookin' watcha got cookin'!"
3. You always called me 'Punkin face.' To this day I don't know why. Does my head look like a pumkin? HAHAHAHAHAHa. I called Allie that the other day and she gave me the strangest look like, "What the heck mom..."
4. You would always let me drink out of your glass at the dinner table when you had 'fun' drinks. By the way, because of you, I still like my juice watered down (:
5.Guarana, tonic water, Nibs, pistachios, sunflower seeds, black licorice, and homemade bread always remind me of you! I used to get so mad when you would slice my homemade bread right down the middle of the loaf right when it came out of the oven. Then it would just looked 'smooshed' after that.
6. I love you dad!

Kristina's Favorite memories of Dad!!!

Kristina's favorite memories of Dad:
1. Packing us all in the back of the truck to go to the drive in movies was probably one of my most favorite memories as a kid. I was SOOO excited.
2. When I was in the fourth grade and I came home crying because I got a pink slip for "incessant laughter" and I was scared to tell mom. Dad sat me down and told me stories of all the times he got in trouble in school and we just sat there and laughted for awhile.
3. Finding gum or mints in his pockets at church
4. After my engagement broke off, I talked to Dad and he told me how proud he was of me and how even if I made a decision like that at the altar, he would walk right out with me and support me all the way.
5. Leaving his house each summer, and him putting on sun glasses to try and hide the tears, or the times he has given me his last $50 to get me out of a rough time.

Matt's 5 Memories of Dad

1. Doing Paper Route and all the fun we had. ("Hit it!")
2. Going everywhere with Dad for Won-Dor (From the Canadian border to Tennessee, etc)
3. I will never forget the day I got to babtize dad.
4. My Aaronic Priesthood ordination
5. Here's one I still laugh at to this day: "Swearing at my dad when I was 8!" We were in the truck with Katie coming home from Grandma's cabin when he reached over to tickle my knee and I jokingly said,"Stop it, you jack a**!" not knowing that I had said something bad. You just looked at me and said, "I can't believe you just said that!" and Katie said, "ooo! you are in trouble! You said a bad word!" (To this day, it boggles my mind, where I would have ever learned that...oh well! HAHA!)

plus one

3. that time when you first moved to arizona and we were staying in that stinkin amazing house! you and i had a big ol long talk in your room one night and i haven't ever forgotten it. it was cool to just have karine-dad time.

  4. Christmas at our house last year. I will never forget that! Thank you!
  5. Working at Radio Shack and watching you fast for days at a time that the Radio Shack would get enough business to support our family. I love you for that!
  6. Okay, here's an extra! I remember having Lucky Charms with half and half whenever mom would go out of town. Yum! Too bad it doesn't agree with my waistline anymore!
